Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data WorkFocus collects and how we use it.

Last updated July 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how WorkFocus handles information when you use our web application. It is provided for transparency during early access and is not legal advice.

Who we are

WorkFocus is a daily task workspace for freelance developers. For privacy questions, contact us at hello@workfocus.app.

Sign-in and account information

WorkFocus uses Google sign-in (OAuth) through NextAuth. When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We use this to create and identify your account. We do not receive your Google password.

You may optionally upload a custom profile photo, which is stored in our database as a compressed WebP image and displayed across the app.

Data we store

To provide the service, we store the content you create in WorkFocus, including:

  • Daily tasks, priorities, completion status, and roll history
  • Task notes, checklists, links, and file attachments
  • Projects, project tasks, bugs, and credential vault entries
  • Standalone notes and scratch pad content
  • Notification preferences and in-app notification history
  • Your uploaded profile photo (if you choose to set one)

This data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted in the cloud. Data is associated with your user account and is not shared with other users.

Cookies and local storage

WorkFocus uses cookies for:

  • Authentication — session cookies managed by NextAuth to keep you signed in
  • Timezone preference— a cookie storing your detected timezone so "today" and daily task dates match your local calendar

We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies at this time.

Third-party services

We use Google solely for authentication (Google OAuth). Google's handling of your data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We use Resend to deliver transactional and optional activity emails (welcome messages, account confirmations, and notification emails you opt into). We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Email communications

We may send you email in these cases:

  • Transactional — welcome email when you sign up, account deletion confirmation, and waitlist confirmation if you subscribe on the blog
  • Optional activity emails — when you enable email notifications in Settings and choose which events to receive

You can disable optional activity emails in Settings → Notifications. Transactional emails related to your account may still be sent when necessary.

How we use your data

  • To provide and maintain the WorkFocus service
  • To authenticate you and manage your account
  • To send in-app notifications based on your preferences
  • To send email you request or opt into (see Email communications)
  • To improve the product based on aggregate usage patterns

Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. Account deletion permanently removes your tasks, projects, notes, and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.

Security

We use HTTPS for all connections. Access to production infrastructure is restricted. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Children

WorkFocus is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of WorkFocus after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
